This Is 40 - Apatow
One of the best Apatow's ever. It's serious, dramatic. People argue, they're sad, they're making mistakes, huge ones. But it's sweet and adorable in the same time. I particularly like the characters of the two girls.
The Football Factory -
Didn't even finish it. Good british accent though.
Ceux qui restent -
Starring Emmanuelle Devos and Vincent Lindon. Tiny french movie without any budget, few actors etc. The end is impressive and brutal : the woman is finally having her husband back (from a cancer) whereas the man becomes a widower after his wife's death. And tragically enough, the woman seems to be depressed and suffocating, when the man seems to be "free" and himself for the first time. Absolutely insane and beyond any moral code. Some weaknesses though: the family-scene isn't interesting ; the character of the step-daughter is entirely cliché.
Drive -
A master piece. The hero goes around the supermarket in the same way as he tries to escape from the police - his attractive neighbor being the 'equivalent' of the policemen.
Camille redouble - Lvovsky
This is exactly what one could expect from a french contemporary auteur-style movie: a constant will to look for the esthetic of the past. Sort of a proustian quest for the memories to improve ourselves. I hate the character of Jean Pierre Léaud who doesn't succeed to play the 'old crazy wizard'. Podalydès is interesting, a pathetic looser in the fantasy of the future, of an 'apparition'. Otherwise, the youth isn't capture at all. The two parents are awesome in their stupidity and naïvety. A very good first scene of bust-up in the beginning.
21 Jump Street
An american teenage movie. Two cops infiltrate an high school. The new fashion has changed and the old nerd is now more popular than the stupid sporty guy. In the spirit of 'Superbad' even though less original.
Le prénom -
French comedy dealing with classics topics: clichés about right/left, teachers/estate agent, the gay who's actually in a couple with the old mother etc.
